What a WorldNovember 20, 2009 4:38 am

In the news today, the owner/founder of H&H Bagels was arrested on tax charges, and at B&H Photo, a world famous Camera/Video store three female former employees are suing for 7 million dollars for violating the EEOC for refusing to place women on the sales floor, citing “religious” reasons - The owners are Chasidim, and used their cultural belief to deny women the right to earn a higher wage.
From The Village Voice:

B&H Photo Video, the famously well-stocked, reasonably-priced, and knowledgeable-staffed midtown store, employs a large number of orthodox Jews on the floor and in management, but plaintiffs in a lawsuit say they’re not so good about hiring and promoting women. Naskinsha Cushnie and three other female job-seekers claim discrimination. Cushnie says she was told she couldn’t move from cashier to sales clerk because Jewish law forbids it…
The ladies’ lawyer, Richard Ancowitz, cites not only civil but religious law: “I have consulted with leading authorities, and it is quite clear that there are no tenets of Jewish law that require the sales force to be male-only.”
B&H strongly denies the charges (”B&H has a policy of not discriminating against employees and applicants”).

From The New York Post :

…Ancowitz said that under the law, B&H has no First Amendment-religious freedom to discriminate against women. He also said that they also have no right under the Torah to discriminate.
“I have consulted with leading authorities, and it is quite clear that there are no tenets of Jewish law that require the sales force to be male-only,” Ancowitz said. “In fact, the Torah itself teaches, ‘Justice, justice, you shall seek.’ “

on one site, Yeshiva World, all are whinging about the B&H suit, saying they are being persecuted because of their “beliefs”: They claim it violates Orthodox/Chasidic rules of modesty for women to work next to men if not related. . I call bullshit. If my money is good enough for you to take, I should be good enough to work for you on the sales floor. Let me give you a clue by four: B&H is a business that employs non-Jews. Including Muslims. Therein lies my anger.

From the B&H “Professional Careers page”:

Is B&H an equal opportunity employer?
Yes. B&H is committed to hiring and promoting without regard to religion, race, sex, national origin or ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, and/or any other protected status.

BUT!!!! farther up that same FAQ:

What happens after I submit my application?
Our staff of recruiters carefully reviews all applications and forwards qualified candidates to the proper hiring manager.
Note: Due to the high volume of applications only qualified candidates will be contacted.

So, there is the application “out”: WE JUST COULDN’T FIND ANY QUALIFIED WOMEN TO WORK AS SALES REPS.

and, here’s the EEOC’s guidance on sex discrimination:

Home › Guidance: Sex Discrimination

Sex Discrimination
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects individuals against employment discrimination on the basis of sex. Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government.

It is unlawful to discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of his/her sex in regard to hiring, termination, promotion, compensation, job training, or any other term, condition, or privilege of employment. Title VII also prohibits employment decisions based on stereotypes and assumptions about abilities, traits, or the performance of individuals on the basis of sex. Title VII prohibits both intentional discrimination and neutral job policies that disproportionately exclude individuals on the basis of sex and that are not job related.

These “Jews”, along with the louts who own the largest Kosher slaughterhouse in the nation - who underpaid their workers, denied them basic benefits and dignity, have quite happily bought into the Christian stereotype of the Jew.

They have placed themselves above Torah & Talmud which requires us to treat all with respect. They are the wicked, not the pious.

I was chronically homeless. No one to blame but myself. My situation was not the result of drug use/abuse or mental illness or the other “approved methods. No. I was chronically homeless due to bad choices (judgement) in the realm of roommates. In California, it was a bit simpler to be working and homeless - I could at least live in my car. Slept in some of the best neighborhoods in Santa Monica.

Then, I moved to New York. Lived at the 92nd Street Y while I attended school, was lured back here to NYC by a friend who said I could live with her in her house. Silly me. She kicked me out just prior to Thanksgiving of that year, knowing I did not have the money to afford a share. This bullshit cycle continued til I found my own place in 1997 way up in New York’s Washington Heights.

In 1998, the day after a neighbor’s kid told me men had been asking about me, my apartment door was kicked in by narcs looking for a nonexistant drug lab. 8 months later, on May 1, 1999, I was the victim of a home invasion which left me friendless and seeing doctors and therapists for a “mild” TBI til 2005. Even with this cursory confessional, I can hear you ask “where were your friends?” HA! What friends? Even my (ex)boyfriend turned his back on me. This man who on April 30th 1999 professed his love for me, decided he really didn’t give a shit on May 4th 1999 when he saw my black eyes and broken nose. I moved to Staten Island after that incident, where I lived until 2002 and I became homeless again.

Even though I really couldn’t, I went back to work.

I had no choice.

Who’s doing the book burning? Not “Obamabots” or “Obamanauts” just your everyday Right Wing Neo-Con-Fundie.
North Carolina church to burn ‘Satan’s books,’ including works of Mother Teresa | Raw Story

A Baptist Church near Asheville, N.C., is hosting a “Halloween book burning” to purge the area of “Satan’s” works, which include all non-King James versions of the Bible, popular books by many religious authors and even country music…hurch leaders deem Good News for Modern Man, the Evidence Bible, the New International Version Bible, the Green Bible and the Message Bible, as well as at least seven other versions of the Bible as “Satan’s Bibles,” according to the website. Attendees will also set fire to “Satan’s popular books” such as the work of “heretics” including the Pope, Mother Teresa, Billy Graham and Rick Warren.

RICK WARREN? NOW YOU’VE GONE TOO FAR, MISTER…

on the other hand, the list of books being burned include books by Chuck Colson, James Dobson, Jimmy “Trembling Lip” Swaggert, THE POPE? (Wow, a true throwback to the Reformation - LMFAO they still refer to the Pope as The Whore of Babylon?). Benny Hinn…. welll….

Gov. Arnie is just full of surprises these days:
SFGate: Politics Blog : California’s official Harvey Milk Day “an idea whose time has come”

Harvey Milk Day, a state day to honor the slain San Francisco gay rights advocate, is now official in California thanks to a somewhat unexpected signature Monday from Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has vetoed such legislation in the past.
The bill was one of two key gay rights bills authored by State Senator Mark Leno of San Francisco, who says he’s “pleasantly surprised” that the governor put his pen to both; the other bill makes gay marriages performed in other states legal in California.

and, the haters, true to form:
“Harvey Milk* was a sexual predator of teens, an advocate of polygamous relationships, a public liar, and is in no way a good role model for impressionable schoolchildren,” said Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com. “Sadly, children in public schools will now have even more in-your-face, homosexual-bisexual-transsexual indoctrination. This provides the strongest impetus yet for loving parents to remove their children from anti-family public schools.”

“’Harvey Milk Day’ teaches children as young as five years old to admire the life and values and the notorious homosexual activist Harvey Milk” said Thomasson. “The ‘suitable commemorative exercises’ that are part of ‘Harvey Milk Day’ can easily result in cross-dressing exercises, ‘LGBT pride’ parades and mock gay weddings on school campuses — everything Harvey Milk supported.”

I bet they have lionized and canonized his and Mayor George Moscone’s assassin, Dan “I’m quitting” White, though when a search for “dan white” on the “Save California” website turned up this:

CQ Politics | Lobbyists Stew After Being Bounced From Boards

A tide of anger and dismay is rippling down K Street as the Obama administration implements a new policy limiting the roles of lobbyists on federal advisory committees.

The policy change, described by the White House as the next step in President Barack Obama ’s drive to limit influence-peddling in Washington, could affect hundreds of lobbyists who serve on the panels, which were created by Congress in the 1970s to provide private-sector advice to the government.

“There is fury,” said a lobbyist who sits on one of the committees. “Absolute fury.” K Street veterans say they sit at the intersection of policy wonk-dom, Washington savvy, and the needs of business, and are therefore best suited to populate the panels.

“FURY”? but why? oh.. Obama didn’t come hat in hand and say “Massah Lobbyist, I done want to end yo influnce”?

…K Street sources describe a process they say was completely opaque and undertaken without their input. Several lobbyists who sit on the panels said they were not consulted and don’t know of anyone who was. Indeed, some sources on the panels contacted just before the Sept. 23 announcement said they were either unaware of the new policy or had heard little more than rumors.

“This was done in a vacuum,” said another business lobbyist who sits on one of the panels. “The decision was made in a room of the White House without consultation.”

The thing that worries me, is these lobbyists are part and parcel of the screeling against this administration. Will the untoward, seditious speech grow more shrill, now that the elephant is wounded more deeply?

We need to remember, that Labor and his other allies are also being removed:

Administration allies in labor and elsewhere will not be spared.

“The President recognizes that some lobbyists advocate for public interest goals shared by this Administration,” Eisen wrote. “Nevertheless, the President made a commitment to the American people to reduce the influence of lobbyists in Washington.”

Should be interesting.

Global War on ProgressAugust 29, 2009 8:43 pm

As Beck sinks deeper into the morass of insanity, his sponsors keep dwindling. He has often said “Howard Beale” from the movie NETWORK is what inspired him:

I am like Howard Beale. When he came out of the rain and he was like, none of this makes any sense. I am that guy. -Glenn Beck
Then came this little spot on Friday past:

Sedition is the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power. Treason is the violation of allegiance to one’s sovereign or state, giving aid to enemies, or levying war against one’s state. Sedition is encouraging one’s fellow citizens to rebel against their state, whereas treason is actually betraying one’s country by aiding and abetting another state. Sedition laws somewhat equate to terrorism and public order laws. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedition

My question is, what will DC police, and Capitol Police do when the armed “after teabirthers” arrive en masse with their loaded guns and semi-automatics?

You know, we all have our inner demons. I, for one - I can’t speak for you, but I’m on the verge of moral collapse at any time. It can happen by the end of the show. - Glenn Beck

Perhaps, that is why “we” watch. To be there when he goes the way of Beale, when he realizes he HAS morally collapsed.
