American Idol - Mean or Telling it Like It Is?
I say they aren’t “mean” enough. In the REAL WORLD of the Performing Artist, the idea of auditioning and being told nicely you suck doesn’t happen often. I know, I have been told when an audition was bad. or off base but thankfully, never over-the-top. I’ve been watching the auditions, and 99.6% of the people auditioning are just not good enough .3% aren’t yet ready for the next step, which leaves 1% with the chance of making it AFTER the win. For that 99.6%, it was the first time they heard “don’t give up your day job”. One guy claimed he sang opera, and oh,my god, I cringed in embarrassment as he bleated his pop tune. Others? Another saw himself as more Clay Aiken than Clay Aiken, and butchered of Aiken’s compositions… oh, lord, they brought back my early days when I would costume myself when going to a audition. I quickly dumped that. and, San Francisco Bay Area.. what the fuck was going on at those auditions? I mean, gimme a break. I could have gotten a yellow ticket. Working in the Arts is just that. WORK. it requires commitment, discipline things that most people aren’t willing to do to be famous. They want Reality Show Fame.
Get a grip. You want to be a famous singer? Are you willing to practice 4-5 hours a DAY? Take lessons? Hear “Next!” Three bars in? If not, don’t give up your day job.
Actors are judged as they walk in. Their ENTRANCE is the make/break. After that, you have to convince them why or why not. Are you willing to work? really WORK? if not keep that Mickey D’s gig.
