B&H strongly denies the charges (”B&H has a policy of not discriminating against employees and applicants”).

Then, I moved to New York. Lived at the 92nd Street Y while I attended school, was lured back here to NYC by a friend who said I could live with her in her house. Silly me. She kicked me out just prior to Thanksgiving of that year, knowing I did not have the money to afford a share. This bullshit cycle continued til I found my own place in 1997 way up in New York’s Washington Heights.

In 1998, the day after a neighbor’s kid told me men had been asking about me, my apartment door was kicked in by narcs looking for a nonexistant drug lab. 8 months later, on May 1, 1999, I was the victim of a home invasion which left me friendless and seeing doctors and therapists for a “mild” TBI til 2005. Even with this cursory confessional, I can hear you ask “where were your friends?” HA! What friends? Even my (ex)boyfriend turned his back on me. This man who on April 30th 1999 professed his love for me, decided he really didn’t give a shit on May 4th 1999 when he saw my black eyes and broken nose. I moved to Staten Island after that incident, where I lived until 2002 and I became homeless again.

Even though I really couldn’t, I went back to work.

I had no choice.

To give myself a sense of social stability, I got involved in local activism, and when I told someone in that liberal/progressive group I was homeless, she looked at me and exclaimed “You have a computer and a cell phone” I had shattered the well honed media image of the homeless as being minority/mentally ill/addicted or a combination of the above. She had never met anyone who was working and homeless and white. She was confused and her brain hurt. Sleep was a problem - even the practice of meditation makes you suspect - after all , your eyes are closed. So, after I got off work, and on my days off, I’d find a way to get Power Naps. In the park, a train, a movie. More often than not, I’d be sleep deprived. Nights were spent playing musical 24/7 coffee shops and other places with internet access. Now, roaming the streets of New York late night is not the most ideal thing one can do, but it was safer than a shelter, and it allowed me to continue being an adult. Shelters are not set up to handle people who don’t make enough money to share, let alone rent on one’s own. Like I said, I was homeless due to poor judgement in selecting roommates and not insisting my name go on the lease.

So, I parked my ass in a Starbucks went online and into a gabbly chat, and that’s how I met my Canuckistani sistercuz. and another internet friend. For some reason I still don’t understand, I told my sistercuz about my situation. or, maybe I do - she was (is) in Canada. She wouldn’t have to worry I was asking her for anything. she did ask where my (ex)BF was, and I made excuses about his landlord. Then, I started IMing a friend in Chicago, and told him. He asked where my (ex)BF was. I told him that he didn’t know. It was simpler than saying he didn’t give a shit - subZero winter weather on a subway platform and near frostbite made that very clear to me. Fuck you Joshua Pierce. I didn’t tell my other internet friend, because he was nearer, married with kids and I didn’t want him or his wife thinking “why is she telling me this? what does she want?” I know my sistercuz was asking herself that. So, yes my friend, the night I told you I had been homeless, I was sheltering in a Kinko’s I was homeless for about two years. I told you a fib. I’m sorry I had too. I was homeless when I was out supporting the Writers on the picket line. When I met Robert Wexler When I worked on L&O with Robin Williams and Mo Rocca. I was homeless when I started the current job I have now.

Why didn’t I ask for help? Oh, but I did. I went to the Council on Jewish Poverty asking for help in finding a share I could afford. Their response?

What have I learned?
1) Make sure my name is on the lease.
2) Jews will only help other Jews if they are the “right” Jews. I am not the “right” Jew.

Harvey Milk Day, a state day to honor the slain San Francisco gay rights advocate, is now official in California thanks to a somewhat unexpected signature Monday from Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has vetoed such legislation in the past.
The bill was one of two key gay rights bills authored by State Senator Mark Leno of San Francisco, who says he’s “pleasantly surprised” that the governor put his pen to both; the other bill makes gay marriages performed in other states legal in California.

A tide of anger and dismay is rippling down K Street as the Obama administration implements a new policy limiting the roles of lobbyists on federal advisory committees.

The policy change, described by the White House as the next step in President Barack Obama ’s drive to limit influence-peddling in Washington, could affect hundreds of lobbyists who serve on the panels, which were created by Congress in the 1970s to provide private-sector advice to the government.

“There is fury,” said a lobbyist who sits on one of the committees. “Absolute fury.” K Street veterans say they sit at the intersection of policy wonk-dom, Washington savvy, and the needs of business, and are therefore best suited to populate the panels.

…K Street sources describe a process they say was completely opaque and undertaken without their input. Several lobbyists who sit on the panels said they were not consulted and don’t know of anyone who was. Indeed, some sources on the panels contacted just before the Sept. 23 announcement said they were either unaware of the new policy or had heard little more than rumors.

“This was done in a vacuum,” said another business lobbyist who sits on one of the panels. “The decision was made in a room of the White House without consultation.”

The thing that worries me, is these lobbyists are part and parcel of the screeling against this administration. Will the untoward, seditious speech grow more shrill,now that the elephant is wounded more deeply?
